ABOUT
Bodnaam is a progressive theatre society based in Kolkata. It was founded by theatre enthusiasts mainly from The Heritage Institute of Technology, in the year 2009. What started out as a platform to bring together a few like minded students to perform proscenium theatre has now evolved staging regular shows all over West Bengal, involving 30 and more members, who share the same passion and zeal for theatre.
Our first breakthrough came in 2012 where we performed and were joint winners at Vodafone Odeon 2012. From 2012 we established ourselves as the premiere street theatre group in all of West Bengal having victory at IIT Spring Fest 2014, the biggest street play competition organized in the eastern region, under our belt.
We have produced major street plays performed all over Kolkata like ’Pocketman’ dealing with corruption,’ Shakti’ dealing with women empowerment.
From 2014 we have started performing in all the major auditorium in Kolkata like Gyan Manch, Tapan Theatre, Jogesh Mime Academy, ICCR, Ahindra mancha,Gd Birla Sabhagar.
As of now, we are a Government Registered Group(S/2L/3455) and organize professional theatre shows in different theatre halls.
Our most critically acclaimed show till date is The Hunger Artist which premiered full house at Tapan Theatre covered by Times of India, dealing with the human psychology of class discrimination and the classic narration of Franz Kafka’s ‘A Hunger Artist’. The Hunger artist continues to draw crowd for it repeat shows the most prestigious of it being at Rabindra Tirtha organized by Rotary East.
Also another of our commercially and critically acclaimed play ‘The Convict’ which was staged recently on 30th July 2015 went to a packed audience. It is adopted from the character study of Norman Mckinnel’s play “The Bishop’s Candlesticks”, a psychoanalytical thriller drama soaring through the minds of all humanity.
Also we regularly collaborate with major theatre groups in Kolkata with Natyanan,Bohumukhi, Icchamoto, Hypokrites , Kolkata RomRoma, MAD, Shriek of Silence, etc and other youth theatre groups .
We have also been part of many social projects having collaborated with Rotaract clubs, And NGOs like AMRA, Make A Difference, etc.
We, at Bodnaam, have never shed away from voicing our creative instincts without any hint of fear. Bodnaam is not just a group, it's a collection of condensed thoughts, passionate dreams and an indomitable will power to sustain good theatre.
